New apprenticeship opportunities with East Suffolk Council

Posted by on 11 May 2023 | Comments

East Suffolk Council is offering the chance for people to enhance their skills and boost their career ambitions with the return of its successful apprenticeship scheme.

Apprenticeships provide the opportunity to gain workplace experience, high quality training, and a recognised qualification, while in paid employment.

This year, the successful scheme, which has seen over 80% of participants stay beyond their apprenticeship, has nine new opportunities available in a number of teams, including Legal, ICT, Climate Change and Sustainability, Customer Services, Finance, HR, Asset Management, Housing and Procurement.

Open evenings will take place between 5.30pm and 7pm at East Suffolk House, in Melton, on Tuesday 23 May, and at Lowestoft’s Riverside building on Wednesday 24 May, for potential apprentices to learn more about the scheme and about working for the council. Please email HR@eastsuffolk.gov.uk to book your place.

East Suffolk Council Chief Executive, Chris Bally said: “Apprenticeships provide an opportunity for people to gain both training and a recognised qualification while working in paid employment.

“Our apprentices spend much of the working week here at the council, while also studying independently and completing assignments for their qualifications.

“We aim to help each of them gain the tools for a future of sustained employment and for the good of the local economy. At the same time, the council gets to benefit from their ideas, insights and perspectives.

“I’m really looking forward to greeting the next group of apprentices and would encourage as many people as possible to apply.”

Ellana joined East Suffolk Council as an apprentice in 2021 and is now working as an Assistant Design and Content Officer in our busy Communications Team.

“I have grown so much throughout my apprenticeship, and it has allowed me to gain skills and confidence that I simply didn't have before I started,” she said.

“As I have been able to learn from my team at East Suffolk Council and my training provider, I am now equipped with a wide range of skills and experience that will help me progress in my career.

“I am very fortunate to have secured a permanent position with my team and I am excited to continue on my journey that started with an apprenticeship.”

Applications close on 25 June and successful applicants start in September.
