UNRWA funding suspension statement

Posted by on 24 May 2024 | Comments

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) began operations in 1950 and deliver essential services including education, primary health care, emergency response and are the largest aid agency in Gaza. With over 30,000 dead, this administration calls upon the government to reinstate vital funding to UNRWA, which has been suspended since January, following the examples of the European Union, Sweden, France and Germany amongst many others.

Starvation and famine are a reality of life in Gaza, with aid convoys carrying food and water either unable to penetrate, or disrupted if they do get through. Our call is for the UK government to reinstate, and preferably redouble, funding to this organisation, and enable them to offer relief from the appalling suffering. If we do not, we too will effectively be complicit in these horrors.
