Three volunteers at Team Waveney Swimming Club will be provided with training to assist existing swim coaches.
The training is being funded by East Suffolk councillor Janet Craig, using £1,125 of her Enabling Communities Budget.
The Fundraising Team at Team Waveney Swimming Club approached Cllr Craig after they identified a need for more coaches to bolster their current team and improve the delivery of lessons to local people.
The club provides teaching and coaching to the local community for swimmers aged eight to 50 plus. However, in recent years they have struggled to cope with increasing demand alongside increasing pool hire costs. These factors made it difficult to fund training courses for new volunteer coaches.
Alison Edwards, a member of Waveney Swimming Clubs Fundraising Team, said:
“It’s vital for our club to have a new generation of volunteer coaches to ensure the survival of the club and future planning - particularly developing our talented competitive swimmers. The funding will cover three more courses from Swim England for volunteers to support our Head Coach and coaching team, provide consistency within training sessions and extra cover for holidays and sickness to avoid session cancellations. The funding will have a huge impact on our aspirational plans for the club and help support our own swimmers to progress in to coaching pathways.”
Cllr Janet Craig said:
“Team Waveney Swimming Club are clearly passionate about their sport. I admire the club’s ability to help people learn a valuable life skill, generally stay fit and healthy as well as provide a competitive edge for those that are keen to excel. Being able to deliver funding that will provide Assistant Coach Training to three new volunteers is a perfect example of where the Enabling Communities Budget scheme supports our impressive community champions.”
Any community, voluntary or social enterprise organisations are encouraged to explore options for funding under the Enabling Communities Budget scheme.
