Council officers have taken part in a multi-agency day of action to detect and deter crime and anti-social behaviour in Felixstowe.
Officers from East Suffolk Council’s Communities, Environmental Protection, Licensing and Fraud Teams, East Suffolk Services Ltd and local district councillors were joined by officers from Suffolk Constabulary, Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service, Suffolk County Council’s Trading Standards team, Immigration Enforcement and Felixstowe Town Council for the operation on Wednesday 2nd July.
Organised and funded by the East Suffolk Community Safety Partnership (ESCSP), the impact event saw partner agencies conduct a series of checks and inspections aimed at strengthening community safety through collective activity.
Trading Standards, Licensing, Police and Immigration Enforcement carried out compliance and investigation checks on four premises.
The event saw:
Numerous fly tipping sites identified and rubbish to be removed
Immigration person checks carried out and one arrest made
Fire safety advice given and checks carried out
One abandoned vehicle located
Disposable vapes (banned since 1 June 2025) were seized, along with illicit cigarettes and hand rolling tobacco
Two taxi firms checked and found to be compliant with Equality Act 2010 by way of the Taxis and Private Hire Vehicles (Disabled Persons) Act 2022.
Cllr Lee Reeves, Community Safety Partnership chair, said:
"This day of targeted activity allowed partners to build closer working relationships and bolster our efforts to safeguard communities. We know that the overwhelming majority of businesses trade in full compliance with the law, but we are also prepared to take proportionate action where breaches are identified.
“This type of joint operation can act as a visible deterrent and help achieve immediate results. Often, it’s about providing advice and guidance to make a positive change.”
By working collaboratively, the agencies aim to identify issues early, offer support to those at risk, and enforce appropriate measures when necessary. The patrols also provide an opportunity to gather local intelligence, build trust with the community, and demonstrate a united commitment to tackling the root causes of anti-social activity.
The event in Felixstowe follows a similar event held in Saxmundham in April.
