Environmentally conscious young creatives will soon see their designs grabbing attention across Felixstowe as part of a litter-busting campaign.
East Suffolk Council worked alongside Litter-Free Felixstowe community interest group to run a competition for local primary school children to design posters discouraging littering and urging people to instead use a bin.
The many eye-catching and thought-provoking entries were whittled down to one overall winner and six other winning designs to be reproduced as A5 posters and displayed on wheelie bins along the Prom.
Each winner also received a certificate, book token, and promotional goodies from fellow environmental champions, Litter-Free Felixstowe.
Winning entries were submitted by pupils from Colneis Junior School, Fairfield Infant School, Kingsfleet Primary, Langer Primary, SET Felix Primary and Trimley St Mary Primary School.
Cllr Sally Noble, East Suffolk Council's Cabinet Member for the Environment, said:
“We asked local primary school children to come up with bright, bold and inspiring anti-littering messages for our competition in partnership with Litter Free Felixstowe – and they absolutely delivered!
“We initially planned for two winners, but the quality of entries was so strong that we decided to reward seven very worthy designs and have a variety of posters on display. We love every one of the winning entries and I can’t wait to see them brightening up the Prom and delivering an important message.
“These smart, creative, empowered young people will ultimately inherit the world that today's climate action shapes, so it’s crucial that we listen to them and take their words seriously.
“A massive thanks also to Litter-Free Felixstowe for their organisational work on this project and their ongoing commitment to tackling litter across the town and preventing plastic waste from ending up in the sea.”
Litter-Free Felixstowe founder, Debbie Bartlett said:
“Litter-Free Felixstowe has been in existence for over five years and works with schools, businesses and other organisations to tackle the causes of littering.
“School engagement and education are particularly key – presenting the message in whole school assemblies has been important. As a result, the number of young pupils coming up with ideas to protect nature and taking part in group litter-picks has grown.
“We are very proud of all the children who are getting involved in this community initiative.”
