A popular walking challenge is set to return to East Suffolk this summer – with prizes again on offer for taking part.
Last October, hundreds of people signed up to take on the month-long East Suffolk Explorer Walking Challenge, with participants encouraged to walk a minimum of 20 minutes a day and collect digital badges at key milestones.
East Suffolk Council has again teamed up with community-based walking app, Go Jauntly, to relaunch the challenge this August with a varied selection of 11 different routes, including the Bungay Town Trail, the Felixstowe Park Loop and the Framlingham Town Tour.
The initiative is part of the wider Digital Towns programme, which has seen the installation of free public Wi-Fi, digital footfall counters and town marketing platforms, alongside business support, in towns including Felixstowe, Lowestoft, Southwold and Woodbridge.
Cllr Katie Graham, East Suffolk’s cabinet member for Communities, Leisure and Tourism said:
“It’s great to join up with Go Jauntly again for the second East Suffolk Explorer Walking Challenge.
“We had 341 participants last October and I’d encourage even more people to sign up this time round.
“Almost two thirds of those who completed the challenge said it had encouraged them to walk more. It’s really encouraging to know that those people are being more active; maintaining their physical health and mental wellbeing, while also taking advantage of our beautiful surroundings here in East Suffolk and making journeys they may otherwise have taken by car.”
Hana Sutch, Go Jauntly CEO and co-founder, added:
“After successfully introducing the first East Suffolk Explorer walking challenge to residents, we are thrilled to announce that the challenge is back for another year.
“It's fantastic to see that our walking challenges encourage people to incorporate walking into their daily routines. Walking is not only enjoyable but also cost-free and effortless, offering tremendous benefits for both your physical and mental wellbeing.
“Participants can enjoy the natural beauty of the region while improving their health and potentially winning prizes, making it a win-win situation for all involved.”
The East Suffolk Explorer challenge runs throughout August on the Go Jauntly app – downloadable for free from the Apple Store or Google Play.
After signing up to the challenge via the app, each participant can choose from walks or trails to explore, while logging their steps and unlocking digital badges along the way.
Weekly prize draw winners will receive Go Jauntly premium subscriptions and leisure centre vouchers, while grand prize winners will get a fitness tracker and a pair of VIP tickets for the Tour Britain.
Challengers must be residents of East Suffolk and provide an accurate postcode on the app to be eligible to win prizes.
