Have your say on renewal of Public Space Protection Order

Posted by on 14 August 2023 | Comments

Residents in Lowestoft are invited to have their say on the proposed renewal of a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) which prohibits drinking alcohol in public spaces.

A PSPO is currently in place for the Harbour ward in Lowestoft and prohibits the consumption of alcohol in specific areas. This order was introduced in 2020 and following a review of data collected by Suffolk Police, it is recommended that the order is renewed.

A consultation is now open, inviting people to give their views on the proposed renewal.

Cllr Katie Graham, East Suffolk’s cabinet member for Communities, Leisure and Tourism said: “Since the introduction of the PSPO, alcohol related incidents significantly decreased however data collected over the past year by Suffolk Police shows a rise in anti-social behaviour where alcohol is a factor and so it is sensible to extend the PSPO to help tackle these incidents and benefit local residents and businesses.”

Full details of the PSPO, and how to comment.

The consultation closes on 26 August 2023.

Officers from the East Suffolk Communities Team will be outside the Britten Centre in Lowestoft on Wednesday 16 August (9.30am-12pm) and Saturday 19 August (10am-1pm) to speak to people about the PSPO consultation.
