Early details have been revealed for East Suffolk’s participation in St Elizabeth Hospice’s Hop to it! Suffolk 2025 trail.
Final details are being added to sculptures, which will appear across four East Suffolk towns in this summer’s art trail.
Felixstowe, Woodbridge, Beccles and Lowestoft will host nine large hares and 42 small leverets. These will be spread across the towns and exact details of locations will be revealed soon.
This is the fourth art trail hosted by St Elizabeth Hospice in partnership with creative producers Wild in Art, following the success of Pigs Gone Wild 2016, Elmer’s Big Parade Suffolk 2019 and the Big Hoot Ipswich 2022.
East Suffolk Council have sponsored one large hare and one smaller leveret, and last year two artists were selected by Cllrs Caroline Topping and Sarah Whitelock to design and paint the sponsored hares.
Sarah Edwards is the chosen artist for the large hare, which will be located in Lowestoft.
The smaller leveret will be placed in Beccles, and artist Sarah Bennett is currently adding the finishing touches to this.
Cllr Caroline Topping, Leader of East Suffolk Council, said:
“We are so pleased that St Elizabeth Hospice has chosen to expand the trail to East Suffolk. The charity is an important community asset, and they deliver care to many people in our community.
“I would like to encourage all residents to get involved in this event by visiting as many hares as possible. Walking or cycling to see these hares can be extremely beneficial to our wellbeing, and each of these towns are linked by train so sustainable travel is extremely simple. This is a great project and something we are proud to be a sponsor of.”
Cllr Sarah Whitelock, East Suffolk’s cabinet member with responsibility for Communities, Culture, Leisure and Tourism said:
“This is a brilliant opportunity to show visitors how amazing East Suffolk is. Each of the towns has its own unique qualities, and the trail is a brilliant way to explore these whilst contributing to a good cause. I urge residents to get involved too and support their local economy.”
Celia Joseph, Community & Partnerships Fundraising Manager at St Elizabeth Hospice, added:
“We’re thrilled to have East Suffolk Council as one of our partners for our summer art trail, Hop to it! Suffolk 2025.
“Our talented artists are already busy bringing their creative designs to life, and we’re incredibly grateful to the supporters and local businesses helping us get ready for the launch.
“We can’t wait to see the trail brighten the streets of Ipswich, Beccles, Felixstowe, Lowestoft, and Woodbridge, filling Suffolk with colour and creativity.”
The trail will take place from 21 June to 29 August. More information can be found on the St Elizabeth Hospice website.
Residents are encouraged to use public transport when completing the trail. Each of the townsare accessible via rail along the East Suffolk and Felixstowe Lines.
