The next stage in the redevelopment of Jubilee Parade on Lowestoft’s seafront will begin on Monday 15 May.
Earlier this year, East Suffolk Council was awarded £4.3m through the Government’s Levelling Up Fund to bring forward the next phase of Jubilee Parade, located on Lowestoft’s seafront.
This funding will enable the council to realise its vision for further regeneration of the seafront, to drive the visitor economy and improve the quality of life for local people.
The Jubilee Parade development will include a new two-storey building with a first-floor café, offering uninterrupted views of the sea and the award-winning South Beach, along with new showers, toilets, and a Changing Places facility. The development will complement the Eastern Edge beach huts, which opened last year.
Before ground works for the development can begin, ground investigations are required including some work on the upper esplanade and lower promenade which may cause disruption for residents and businesses in the vicinity. These works are expected to last for five days.
Paul Wood, Head of Economic Development and Regeneration at East Suffolk Council said: “To progress to the next phase of the Jubilee Parade project, we will be undertaking ground investigations to fully understand the current condition of the area, specifically where the existing café and toilets are located to inform the design of the new café complex.
“Unfortunately, there may be some noise and possible vibrations, with some respite periods, while this work is carried out, however we are working closely with our contractor to minimise disruption by undertaking the work prior to the summer season and school holidays.”
During the works, a temporary footpath closure will be in effect, and the upper esplanade restricted by the contractors site compound. Alternative footpaths during the closure can be accessed via the upper promenade opposite Rectory Road, or beside Cefas.

Local businesses, residents, and schools have already been made aware of the works.
