Residents and businesses along the route of a major cycling event coming to East Suffolk on Tuesday 2 September are advised to be aware of temporary road closures and parking suspensions in their area.
Stage One of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men takes place in East Suffolk on Tuesday 2 September, starting in Woodbridge and finishing in Southwold.
To ensure race safety, it will be necessary to close some roads, and to suspend parking in some of the towns and villages on the route.
Letters have been delivered this week to all houses and businesses along the route which may be affected by road closures or parking suspensions. Signs are also in place in areas where on-street parking restrictions will apply for the event and ‘no waiting’ cones will be put in position on Monday 1 September. Residents and visitors are asked to remove their vehicles from these areas before restrictions apply.
Cllr Seamus Bennett, East Suffolk Council’s assistant cabinet member said: “The Lloyds Tour of Britain Men is the biggest professional cycling race in the country, and we have worked hard to secure the return of the event to East Suffolk again this year. We appreciate that the temporary road closures and parking suspensions may be inconvenient for affected residents however, these restrictions are for a short time and are essential to ensure the safety of the riders and all those who come out to enjoy this major international sporting event. I would like to thank residents for their understanding and support in advance.”
To minimise inconvenience, cones will be removed, and restrictions will be lifted as soon as possible after the race has passed through.
There will also be a rolling road closure in operation across the route for around 15 minutes before the estimated time of arrival until approximately 10 minutes after the last rider has passed.
