Young people in Kelsale and Yoxford offered free transport to First Light

Posted by on 13 June 2023 | Comments

Young people living in the Kelsale and Yoxford ward are invited to take advantage of free bus travel to this weekend’s First Light Festival.

Supported by Cllr Julia Ewart, East Suffolk Council’s ward member for Kelsale and Yoxford and working with Halesworth Area Community Transport, two minibuses will be available to transport young people between 13 and 17 years old to the free festival in Lowestoft on Saturday 17 June.

Cllr Ewart said: “Working with our Communities Team, we’ve arranged this free transport to ensure that young people in rural communities have an opportunity to experience the magic of the First Light Festival. It will ensure youngsters can safely travel to and from the event and enjoy the rich creative experience on offer. I’m thrilled that we have been able to arrange this and thank all those who have made it possible.”

The buses will stop in Yoxford, Peasenhall and Huntingfield before arriving in Lowestoft before the start of the opening parade at 10.45am. The bus travel is free and will pick up from designated points. The bus will leave Lowestoft at 6pm and travel back to the villages.

Places must be booked in advance and young people must be accompanied by a parent, carer or a sibling aged over 18.

To book, please email sam.kenward@eastsuffolk.gov.uk with the names of those attending and a contact phone number for the parent, carer, or sibling.

Details of pick-up and collection points will then be issued before the day.

The free transport is available to young people living in Chediston, Cookley, Cratfield, Heveningham, Huntingfield, Kelsale-cum-Carlton, Linstead Magna, Linstead Parva, Peasenhall, Sibton, Ubbeston, Walpole and Yoxford.

Organised by First Light CIC and held on Lowestoft’s award-winning South Beach each June, First Light Festival is a free multi arts festival, celebrating the first midsummer sunrise in Britain’s most easterly town.

Supported by East Suffolk Council, the festival attracts tens of thousands of people from across the UK and offers an exciting programme of arts activities including music, dance, theatre and performance, for all ages.
