Community engagement

The Sizewell C Task Group met for the first time on 18 October 2010. The remit of the group relates to Sizewell C matters. The task group's amended terms of reference were approved by Cabinet in November 2013.

Snape Maltings event - 28 May 2012

The Joint Local Authority Group (JLAG) organised a half-day event at Snape Maltings to give interested groups the opportunity to discuss the key issues facing their communities and find out first-hand the situation regarding the Sizewell C project at that time.

Snape Maltings event - 15 January 2013

The JLAG organised a special half-day event at Snape Maltings to understand key stakeholders views of EDF's stage 1 public consultation on their initial proposals for Sizewell C. The feedback from the event was used to influence the joint response the two councils submitted to EDF.

Darsham event - 11 March 2015

The community engagement event held on 11 March 2015 at High Lodge, Darsham, was well attended by 57 delegates and representatives of 27 parish and town councils across our district.

Southwold Town Council event - 12 May 2015

An officer meeting with Southwold Town Council took place on 12 May 2015.

Stage 2: High Lodge Darsham event - 6 December 2016

On 6 December 2016, along with Suffolk County Council, we hosted an event at High Lodge, Darsham. The event was to assist the councils to formulate their joint response to EDF Energy with feedback from their towns and parishes. It was also an opportunity for the towns and parishes to begin to consider their own responses.

EDF Energy's Stage 3 consultation for Sizewell C ran from 4 January to 29 March 2019. East Suffolk Council and Suffolk County Council took their draft response to their respective Cabinets on the 11 and 12 March 2019 and the reports are below. The Final response on the Stage 3 public consultation was submitted to EDF Energy on the 26 March 2019.

Stage 4: Ufford Park, Melton event - 26 July 2019

On the 26 July 2019, East Suffolk Council together with Suffolk County Council hosted an event at Ufford Park, Melton. The event was to assist the councils in formulating their responses to EDF Energy’s additional Stage Four consultation which was held from 18 July to 27 September 2019. The event was also an opportunity for towns and parishes to begin to consider their own responses.

EDF Energy announced an additional Stage 4 consultation for Sizewell C which was held between 18 July and 27 September 2019. East Suffolk Council and Suffolk County Council took their draft responses to their respective cabinets on 23 and 24 September 2019. The final response on the Stage 4 Public consultation was submitted to EDF Energy on 25 September 2019.

Planning Performance Agreement (PPA)

The PPA confirmed that EDF Energy will underwrite additional costs incurred by the District Council and County Council in evaluating, challenging or commenting upon any proposals for a new nuclear power station at Sizewell.

It is without prejudice to either council's submitted comments on a formal submission to the Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC), which will deal with an application and either determine it or refer a recommendation to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government.

Sizewell C Strategic Planning Liaison Group

The Sizewell C Strategic Planning Liaison Group (previously the Planning Performance Agreement project board) acts as the forum for discussing major project issues as well as the formal mechanism for approving and monitoring the delivery of work packages.

Statement of Community Consultation (SoCC)

On 8 November 2012, EDF Energy published its final SoCC outlining how it intended to consult about its Sizewell C plans. East Suffolk Council and Suffolk County Council were formally consulted about the draft SoCC, a joint response was issued on 19 October 2012. Details provided below:
