  • Enabling Communities Strategy

The council's East Suffolk Strategic Plan identifies five areas which we believe will be really important for East Suffolk over the next four years – economic growth, value for money, digital transformation, our environment and enabling communities. Our Enabling Communities Strategy explains what we mean by ‘enabling communities’ and how we want to work differently and better with our communities to improve the environment, economy and social aspects of the area to make services – and life – better for everyone.

  • Enabling Communities

For East Suffolk Council 'enabling' is not a political philosophy or set of legislative rights. It is about embedding a culture and approach to working with local people to deliver more with our communities by helping them to do things for themselves rather than doing things ‘to’ or ‘for’ them.

  • National Register of Parks/Gardens of Special Historic Interest

There are fourteen parks and gardens in the East Suffolk District included on the National Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest compiled by Historic England. Under the Historic Buildings and Ancient Monuments Act 1953 Historic England compiles a register of “gardens and other land” situated in England that appear to be of special historic interest. The main purpose of this Register is to celebrate designed landscapes of note, and encourage appropriate protection. It is hoped that drawing attention to sites in this way will increase awareness of their value and encourage those who own them, or who otherwise have a role in their protection and their future, to treat these special places with due care.

  • London Road, Lowestoft High Street Heritage Action Zone

Through High Streets Heritage Action Zones (HSHAZ) designation, conservation-led regeneration will make the South Lowestoft Conservation Area a vibrant place to live, work and visit. The HSHAZ will champion the value of heritage within the high street, using that heritage for positive change to address the current decline facing the area. It will encourage sympathetic and sustainable improvements to the built environment, where communities have pride in place and are actively engaged in the area’s protection and presentation through a programme of events and training.
