New permit scheme requests

East Suffolk Council has been delegated the responsibility of introducing resident parking schemes, ensuring that residents and their visitors are given priority for on-street parking.

Parking schemes often require a combination of regulations to ensure their effectiveness. As part of these schemes, on-street parking capacity may appear reduced, as certain areas of the network are designated for protection, and specific kerb-space is allocated for appropriate parking.

The parking scheme questionnaire will help identify areas where parking management regulations have been requested. A small number of these areas will be prioritized for the development of parking management schemes, and a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) will be created. The TRO will only be introduced once households and businesses in a street or area have expressed their support for the proposed regulations through the statutory process, which includes a minimum twenty-one-day consultation period.

The results of the parking scheme questionnaire will allow appropriate consideration to be given to supply and demand in terms of parking capacity throughout the day and night, and an indication to the preferred parking management regulations.

Please be aware that there is no guarantee a scheme will be considered for your street. In the event a scheme is considered, residents must be aware that the introduction of a Traffic Regulation Order is a lengthy process.

Please be advised that the installation, amendment and/or removal of all highway regulations are the responsibility of the Highway Authority. If you are wanting to request regulations other than a resident permit scheme, for example ‘No Waiting’ (yellow lines) please visit Suffolk County Council’s website for further guidance; Waiting and loading restrictions - Suffolk County Council.
