Air quality monitoring data

We monitor nitrogen dioxide (NO2) concentrations in the air at a number of locations within the East Suffolk district.

Continuous monitoring

There is a continuous analyser located in Woodbridge at the junction of Lime Kiln Quay Road, Thoroughfare and St John’s Street within the declared Air Quality Management Area.

  • Summary of the site details and all sampling results for the continuous analyser Woodbridge
  • Near real time air quality data for the UK, including data from the Continuous Analyser, Woodbridge

Diffusion Tube monitoring

There are a large number of long-term diffusion tube monitoring locations covering 22 areas within the district: Beccles, Bungay, Blythburgh, Farnham, Felixstowe, Kesgrave, Leiston, Little Glemham, Lowestoft, Marlesford, Martlesham, Melton, Middleton, Oulton Broad, Saxmundham, Stratford St. Andrew, Theberton, the Trimleys & Walton, Tunstall, Wickham Market, Woodbridge and Yoxford.  Additional sites in other areas of the district are often run for a 1 year period to provide air quality information.

  • Summary of diffusion tube site details and monitoring results for the last 5 years

Further details of the monitoring locations together with historic results can be viewed in the relevant air quality report.

National monitoring

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) operate the largest air quality monitoring network in the UK called the Automatic Urban and Rural Network (AURN). There are 182 sites across the country including 1 within East Suffolk Council in Sibton. The Sibton site historically monitored for the pollutant Ozone, but at the start of 2024 also began monitoring for Particulate Matter - both PM10 and PM2.5.

All AURN sites can be seen on an interactive map at Interactive monitoring networks map - Defra, UK. If you click on the site of interest you can find out site details, download historic monitoring data and view current data for 2024. Please note that data is provisional during the current year and will be ratified once the full years dataset is obtained.
