Bulky waste collections to restart in East Suffolk

East Suffolk Council will begin to collect large items again from next week after temporarily suspending the service to prioritise household waste and recycling collections.

The Council’s bulky waste collection service is set to return on Monday 15 March, meaning that households in East Suffolk can once again have bulky items collected from their properties. This comes after the service was suspended on 22 January due to temporary staffing pressures.

Cllr James Mallinder, cabinet member for the Environment said: “We greatly appreciate the understanding from residents to suspend the bulky waste service for a short amount of time, so we could focus on continuing to deliver our essential refuse and recycling collections.

“However, we are pleased to announce that we can now restart the bulky waste collection service for our residents, making it easy for them to get rid of bulky items such as fridges and furniture. When the service was suspended, all outstanding bookings were honoured, so there is no backlog to catch up with and we are ready to take new bookings now!”.

To comply with the Government’s social distancing measure and to help keep crews and residents safe, items will need to be placed outside properties before collections, as crews will not be able to enter properties or come into contact with residents when moving bulky items.

The service cost is currently £45.50 for up to three items plus £15.50 for every additional item.
