A new planning document has been adopted in East Suffolk to help guide custom and self-build housing proposals.
East Suffolk Council has adopted a new Custom and Self-build Housing Supplementary Planning Document (SPD). The Supplementary Planning Document supports the implementation of policies relating to custom and self-build housing in the East Suffolk Council - Suffolk Coastal Local Plan and the East Suffolk Council - Waveney Local Plan.
The SPD provides guidance on a range of topics, including the definition of custom and self-build housing, affordable custom and self-build housing, serviced plots, Community Infrastructure Levy, phasing, design codes, plot passports, marketing strategies, and neighbourhood planning/community-led housing.
The Supplementary Planning Document was subject to public consultation during its preparation and the comments received have helped to inform the final document. The Consultation Statement, published alongside the SPD, sets out how comments were taken on board.
Councillor Kay Yule, Cabinet Member for Planning and Coastal Management, said:
“This new Supplementary Planning Document provides detailed guidance to people involved in building, commissioning, or managing the design and construction of their home. Thank you to everyone who helped shape the document by providing feedback and comments during the consultation period.”
The Custom and Self-build Housing SPD, and supporting documents, including the Consultation Statement and the Adoption Statement, can be viewed on the Council’s website.
