Funding supports museum’s ‘Ride the Lights 2025’

Posted by on 17 December 2025 | Comments

An event that invites visitors of all ages to take a festive trip back in time has received funding support from an East Suffolk councillor to help them prepare for their Christmas themed events.

Ward councillor for Carlton Colville, Councillor Letitia Smith provided £2,000 from her Enabling Communities Budget (ECB) to support East Anglia Transport Museum in repainting and rewiring some of its historic vehicles in readiness for ‘Ride the Lights 2025’.

During the events which have been running each weekend throughout December, East Anglia Transport Museum has been showing off their biggest display of Christmas lights across period street scenes and visitors have been enjoying unlimited rides on vintage trams, trolleybuses and narrow-gauge railway.

Visitors are invited to attend the final weekend of events on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 December from 3pm to 7pm where they can also enjoy exhibitions, catering by Sizzlers of Lowestoft, refreshments at the Terminus Tearooms Café and visits to the gift shop.

Run entirely by volunteers, the museum boasts a collection of over 50 vehicles and gives visitors the opportunity to see how these important vehicles are being restored.

Cllr Letitia Smith said: “It was wonderful to join the museum for their opening weekend for this truly magical event and to see their Christmas lights switched on. The museum is an iconic part of Carlton Colville, so I was thrilled to support them in restoring vehicles back to their former glory. The last festive events will be happening this weekend, so if you’re looking for something special to do with loved ones, they’re not to be missed!”
