Authorities join forces for day of action in Saxmundham

Posted by on 9 October 2025 | Comments

Officers from East Suffolk Council have taken part in a multi-agency day of action with the aim of improving community safety in the Saxmundham.

Representatives from East Suffolk Council’s Communities, Environmental Protection, Fraud, Licensing, and Private Sector Housing Teams were joined by officers from Suffolk Police, Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service, Home Office Immigration Team and Sizewell C for the operation on Wednesday 1October.

During the day teams worked together to conduct a series of checks and inspections at residential and business addresses, with advice and support offered to members of the public.

This is the second day of action to be held in Saxmundham in April this year, with a similar event happening in July in Felixstowe.

Outcomes from the event organised by the East Suffolk Community Safety Partnership included:

  • Several areas of concern identified regarding littering resulting in four full sacks of litter collected
  • Two potential fly tipping sites located
  • One damaged bin
  • Two damaged bridge railings
  • One section of damaged public fencing
  • Anti-social behaviour reports from residents in sheltered accommodation
  • Evidence of arson
  • Large number of discarded vapes disposed of safely
  • One stop and search conducted by Suffolk Police
  • Several local businesses visited by Suffolk Police, Suffolk Fire and Rescue and/or Immigration
  • One person arrested and bailed for illegal working
  • Potential fire risks found in businesses by Suffolk Fire and Rescue
  • Two potential unlicensed HMOs investigated

Cllr Jan Candy, East Suffolk's cabinet member with responsibility for Community Health, said: “We’d like to thank everyone who collaborated for another important day of action in Saxmundham, especially the residents and businesses who engaged positively with teams. By working collectively with our partner agencies out on the streets we’re able to speak directly to the community about the issues that are affecting them and respond to concerns. We’re pleased to see so many positive outcomes from the day, which together with the strong sense of community here will help everyone to feel safer.”

Members of the public can report a range of issues online to East Suffolk such as anti-social behaviour, fraud and issues relating to Private Sector Housing.

To report a crime anonymously, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Dial 999 in an emergency or to report a crime in progress, or call 101 if the matter is not an emergency or report to Suffolk Police online.
