Contractors permit to work

Before you carry out work on a building owned or operated by East Suffolk Council, you will need to apply for a permit to work. This is particularly important if the work you do affects the fabric of the building. This may increase the risks associated with fire or compromise the safety of people in the area. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • installation, removal or replacing of any cables within or outside of cable ducts
  • drilling or making holes in walls, floors or ceilings
  • work carried out to mains services e.g. electricity, gas and water
  • work that requires access to the roof
Apply online for a permit to work

You will receive confirmation by email that your application has been successfully submitted.

Your application will be assessed by an officer and we may get in touch with you if we have any questions about the work. Once your application is approved a permit will be sent to you by email. When you have your permit you can contact the council to schedule access to the property. Contact details will be provided on the permit.

The permit is time limited and if the work cannot be completed on time, a new application must be made.
