Town visitor numbers

East Suffolk Council has appointed Proximity Futures Limited to provide Geo-Sense footfall monitoring services in towns across the district. These installations will help us understand visitor numbers to our towns, peak visiting times, average time spent in the town and much more. This will allow us to support our local businesses and provide crucial evidence for town centre community and economic support projects.

What are footfall counters and where are they?

The equipment will be positioned in various locations within East Suffolk’s main towns, collecting a digital signal from any mobile Wi-Fi enabled device as you walk past the sensor. This information is instantly encrypted/scrambled upon detection and a Unique Identifier is used in its place. As such no personal data is held.

Why do you need footfall information?

The footfall counters will provide us with statistical data. This will help us understand visitor numbers to our towns, peak visiting times, average time spent in the town and much more. This will allow us to support our local businesses and provide crucial evidence for town centre community and economic support projects.

How long will you hold this information?

All data will be destroyed 9 months following the end of the contract.
