  • Having your say in licensing decisions

The Licensing Act 2003 allows local communities to have a say in licensing decisions that affect them, not only when someone applies for a licence to carry out certain activities (such as selling alcohol or providing live music) but at any time afterwards if those activities cause problems once a licence has been granted.

Complaining about licensed and unlicensed drivers, vehicles and operators

As a licensing authority, we set high standards for our licensed operators, private hire and hackney carriage (taxi) drivers and vehicles. Whilst such standards are maintained with a great deal of co-operation from both drivers and operators, there may be occasions when problems occur that you wish to complain about.

  • Pleasure boats and personal watercraft (jetskis)

If you wish to be in charge of or navigate a pleasure boat or vessel for the purpose of carrying passengers for hire, you must obtain the appropriate licences from either the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) or in some cases the Council.

  • Vary a premises licence

If you already hold a premises licence you will have some form of authorisation to carry out one or more licensable activities. You can also make an application at any time to ‘vary’ your premises licence to alter the terms of your licence. For example, you can apply to extend the hours you are open to the public or to have conditions removed from your existing licence. You can also apply to add a licensable activity that your current licence does not allow you to carry out.
