2015 Quality of Place award winners

The fifth annual Quality of Place awards ceremony took place on 1 October 2015 when prizes were awarded to four outstanding local projects.

All the entries were judged on quality of design and detailing, quality of workmanship, materials, and sustainability.

Tony Fryatt, Cabinet portfolio holder for Planning  was our Chairman Judge along with the other judges;

  • Fiona Cairns Director of the Suffolk Preservation Society as out Conservation Expert Judge
  • John Lamont Local Architect as our Design Expert Judge
  • David Crawford from The Felixstowe Society  (Local Amenity Society representative)

Design (non-residential)

Winner: Maritime House , Felixstowe by local architects Wincer Kievenaar for Maritime Transport
Craig Weston - Wincer Kievenaar Accepted the Award. Andrew McNabn - Maritime Transport and Nick Roberts from the Equity Land also attended.

Residential

Winner: Frith House, Yoxford By Tate Harmer Architects
Jerry Tate - from Tate Harmer accepted the Award

Extension and Conservation

Highly Commended: Rookery Farm, Monewden
Nick Jacob - NJA principal; accepted the award. Shaun Soanes - NJA project manager, Justin Dean - NJA Technologist for the project and George Cubitt - Cubitt Theobald Ltd, builder also attended.

Highly Commended: Dolphin House, Aldeburgh
Hugh Bunbury - NJA project architect accepted the award. Nick Jacob - NJA principal, Nathan Proctor - NJA Technologist for the project and Robert Norman - Robert Norman Construction Ltd also attended.

Pure Conservation

Winner: Letheringham Lodge, Letheringham by Whitworth Co-Partnership for Mr & Mrs Bickerton
Mrs Bickerton accepted the award. Other attendees were Antony Major of Whitworth Co-Partnership Mr and Mrs Bickerton and a representative from R & J Hogg Ltd.

Highly Commended: Abbey Farm Barn Leiston Abbey Leiston
Tim Buxbaum accepted the award. Simon Thulborn (from Universal Stone, the main contractor) Paul Whatling, thatcher Andrew Quartermain - Director of Pro Corda / Leiston Abbey 1363 also attended.

Conversion and Conservation

Winner: Heveningham Hall Gate Lodges, Sibton
Heveningham Hall Estate Architect Argus Hardy accepted the award

Highly Commended: The Seed Store High Ash farm Peasenhall
Alex Tarry - of Best of Suffolk - accepted the award. Sarah Roberts - Architect - Roberts Molloy Assoc, Simon James and Naomi Tarry also attended.
