The Norwich to Tilbury project was formerly known as East Anglia GREEN, and was re-named in summer 2023. Previous responses refer to East Anglia GREEN, as the project was known at the time of response.
Norwich to Tilbury Enablement Project (formerly East Anglia GREEN) is a proposal by National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) to build a new high voltage network reinforcement between Norwich, Bramford and Tilbury. The project is required to reinforce the existing network in East Anglia between the existing substations in those locations, in addition to providing the potential for new offshore wind generation connections.
As the project is currently designed, no network reinforcements works are proposed within East Suffolk. NGET has stated that an alternative offshore option for Norwich to Tilbury (formerly East Anglia GREEN) would likely involve new works to the network in this district, this option has however been discounted.
Non-statutory consultation – April to June 2022
NGET held a non-statutory consultation on their proposals between 21 April and 16 June 2022. The consultation was designed to provide an overview and justification for the project, present the options considered and preferred options identified and outline the next steps in the project’s programme.
Second Non-Statutory Consultation – June to August 2023
A second non-statutory consultation was held from Tuesday 27 June to Monday 21 August 2023. This consultation focussed on seeking feedback on the latest preferred draft alignment and further detailed development of the proposals.
Statutory Public Consultation – April to July 2024
National Grid held their statutory consultation period between April and July 2024, which was slightly extended to accommodate the General Election. The consultation included changes that had been made since the last non-statutory consultation.
A scoping report for the East Anglia Green project was submitted to the Planning Inspectorate on 4 November 2022. East Suffolk Council provided comments on the report on 5 December 2022.
