Southwold Harbour byelaws and notices - Southwold is a working harbour

All persons are to use the Harbour with caution.

Please be aware that a 10 MPH speed limit is in force on the unmade harbour road this is to protect, persons, vessels and animals from flying stones. Repeated infringements will be treated seriously, and may result in action being taken.

Please

  • Look out for moving vehicles and machinery
  • Keep clear of the edges of the River. Be especially careful if crabbing
  • Keep off all boats and private stages
  • Look out for trip hazards

Parking restrictions. Zoned areas on Harbour Road. Visitors please use pay and display car parks.

For your own safety and the safety of others, do not swim or bathe in the Harbour:

  • There are very strong currents that can sweep people away or suck them under piers, revetments and stages
  • The water is deep and its colour makes it difficult to see someone in difficulties
  • The water may be very cold which may cause a person to gasp for breath, inhale water and drown very quickly
  • The banks and bottom of the River may be muddy. People get stuck in mud.

Keep the correct side of railings and fencing and keep off the concrete revetments.
