The role and purpose of the Scrutiny Committee is to improve the delivery of public services through providing challenge both to the Cabinet and to external organisations where there are issues of public concern. The committee acts as a “critical friend” to decision makers by beneficially examining the council's priorities, key decisions and service provision to ensure they are appropriate, efficient, transparent and accountable, and in the best interests of residents.

Quiet Lanes Suffolk
Arising from our focus on Active Travel in 2019, our Travel Forum, held on World Environment Day, resulted in a mandate from Greenprint members present, to pursue the principle of expanding on the smaller number of Quiet Lanes that were established in East Suffolk in 2013/14, as part of the original pilot.

Deed of Obligation
On the 8 October 2021, East Suffolk Council, Suffolk County Council and NNB Generation Company (SZC) Limited entered into a Deed of Obligation (DoO) pursuant to section 1 of the Localism Act 2011 and section 111 of the Local government Act 1972. The DoO related to all aspects of the Sizewell C project, however since the signing of the DoO, two Deed of Variations have been signed (13 April 2022 and 6 May 2022) which amend specific aspects of the original Deed.

East Suffolk Council's greenhouse gas emissions
East Suffolk Council conducts an annual audit of the emissions arising from its estates and activities. In 2023/24, total quantified emissions, at 4358 tonnes of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e), were down by 1706 tCO2e, that’s a decrease of 28.1% from 2022/23.

LionLink (formerly EuroLink) Multi-Purpose Interconnector
The LionLink Multi-Purpose Interconnector (formerly known as EuroLink) is being developed by National Grid Ventures. Interconnectors are high voltage cables which connect the electricity systems of neighbouring countries. Multi-Purpose Interconnectors could enable interconnection and offshore wind to work together as one combined asset.
